In the second of her blogs for KOS Media, Kent and England batsman Lydia Greenway reflects on a successful start to the Natwest Series with New Zealand.
Here we are again. We met up as a team in Chelmsford and as usual everyone was excited and raring to go.
Continuing with our participation trend we played Brentwood School boys' first XI, which we won. Everyone put in a good performance, something we wanted to take into the NatWest Series against New Zealand. We knew they would be out to get us after coming runners-up for the second year in the ICC Women’s T20.
It seemed a long time until our first game, but when it came round on Tuesday the team was eager to get out there. We were all fired up, whilst wondering how many people would turn out to watch us before the men’s Friends Provident t20. It was great to see a good crowd in the stands at Chelmsford with supporters getting behind us and with the game being on TV it added to the excitement. It’s fantastic that we are getting some coverage, it’s great to showcase the women’s game to new spectators.
Being the first game we knew we had to stamp our authority on the series, so going 1-0 up was a great start. I was surprised to be named player of the match and to be told I had set a new record-the first person to take four catches in an International Twenty20 match. Surprised but happy, especially so with a magnum of champagne big enough to share with about 20 people, although I may not see it again as I gave to my mum and dad to take home after the match.
I’m looking forward to the second game of the series at the Rose Bowl on Thursday (today) and then going onto The County Ground at Hove on Friday, lets hope we can keep up our wining ways. Come on England!
