KENT NEWS: Motorists are being warned to avoid a huge transformer that will crawl through the county with a police escort tomorrow night.

The 206-ton vehicle – which is 63.4m long and 4.4m wide – has a maximum speed of just 14mph on a flat road.

No vehicles will be allowed to overtake it during its journey from Chatham dockyard to Cleve Hill, near Faversham.

There will also be restrictions at times for traffic travelling in the opposite direction.

The transformer will leave Chatham at about 11pm and travel along the A2 Sovereign Boulevard in Gillingham, up the A278 Hoath Way, along the A278 Sharsted Way and onto the M2 at Junction 4.

It will then continue on to the A299 Thanet Way to Whitstable Road before driving through Head Hill Road and Seasalter Road to reach its destination at about 12.30am.
