KENT LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
Six wins from their remaining six games will guarantee the title for St Lawrence, but captain Lewis Jenkins believes his side will need to show more ruthlessness than they did in last week’s 51-run defeat of The Mote if they are to win the league.
The Saints registered their highest score of the season, 347, with Kent second-team batsman Daniel Stickels blasting 163.
“It was an absoulte belter to bat on,” Jenkins said. “Then once we got their top four of five it was in the bag really, they didn’t have the guys who could score at seven or eight an over.
“I think we knew that and we let our intensity drop and bowled poorly, which won’t be good enough against the likes of Bromley.”
Jenkins, who is at a wedding, will miss today (Saturday)’s trip to Tunbridge Wells and will be replaced as skipper by Kent wicketkeeper Paul Dixey.
Bromley, joint-leaders of the division, are at Sevenoaks Vine today, after a 156-run trouncing of Lordswood last week.
DIVISION ONE
Leaders Sibton Park host Whitstable this afternoon, defending a six-point lead at the top of the table.
Park comprehensively beat Blackheath in last week’s summit clash, skittling the Londoners for 149, with Tim Smith and Steven Rowe both claiming four wickets.
Tim Bishop was their top scorer with 48 as they coasted home by six wickets with seven overs to spare.
Sandwich, who host Beckenham this afternoon, took advantage of Blackheath’s slip to move up to second, with a seven-wicket win at Whitstable, Oliver Robinson hitting 54 not out.
Harvel, 50 points from safety, play third-from-bottom Canterbury today, urgently needing a win.
DIVISION TWO
Tenterden visit Catford & Cyphers today after emerging from their biggest test of the season so far as leaders of the division.
Tenterden won a thriller with previous leaders Broadstairs off the penultimate ball last Saturday, to move six points clear at the top of the table.
Timir Chanda took 4 for 37 and Scott Freeman 3 for 50 as the visitors limited Broadstairs to 204 for 9 from 50 overs. Chanda then made an unbeaten 93 from 117 balls to steer Tenterden home in the final over.
Broadstairs will look to bounce back at struggling Hayes, while Dartford, who missed the chance to make up ground last week when they lost to Minster, are at Holmesdale.
DIVISION THREE
The game of the day sees leaders Addington Village travel to second-placed Upchurch.
Addington’s lead at the top was cut to nine points last week when they suffered a whopping 140-run defeat at home to Old Elthamians.
Edward Thorogood made 96 for OE’s as they posted 266 from 50 overs and he then claimed 5 for 29 as Addington collapsed to 126 all out.
Upchurch narrowed the gap with a six-wicket win at Linden Park, effectively ending Park’s title hopes.
After limiting Park to 225 for 9, Upchurch romped home in 46 overs, with Adam Hodder unbeaten on 58.
DIVISION FOUR
First plays third this afternoon, when leaders Old Wilsonians visit Rainham.
OW's had to settle for a fortunate winning draw against OD CUACO last week, after being limited to 204 for 9 - their rivals were on 197 for 7 after 50 overs.
Rainham closed in on the leaders with a five-wicket win at Bexleyheath.
Having held them to 166 for 9 from 50 overs, the Medway side knocked off the winning runs with 12 overs to spare, Kaween Karanamuni unbeaten on 53 at the close.
Sidcup, who beat Gravesend by 192 runs last week, host bottom side Walmer.
DIVISION FIVE
There's another summit meeting in Division Five, with leaders Macknade entertaining Blackheath.
Macknade have a 26-point cushion at the top after last week’s 65-run win over Bapchild, the highlight of which was an unbeaten 125 from 140 balls from Steve Taylor.
Blackheath pounced on a loss by Deal Victoria to move up to second with a draw at Offham, where they finished on 201 for 8, chasing 253 for 7.
Deal host Bickley Park today, looking to move back into the promotion places.
