Conservative candidate Trevor Clarke has been named as the new councillor for the Rochester South and Horsted ward seat after securing a landslide victory.
Mr Clarke received 1,847 votes in last night’s by-election, more than 1,000 votes than his next nearest rival, Labour’s Adam Robert William Price.
Representatives from the three main political parties and the Green and British National Party, battled it out for the vacant seat, formerly held by Conservative John Ward.
Mr Ward resigned last month after posting comments on his website suggesting parents on benefits should be sterilised.
The former councillor claimed the words were not his own and that he had included them on his blog page to spark discussion.
Mr Clarke joins existing ward councillors Nicholas Brice and Sylvia Griffin.
