MEDWAY Maritime Hospital has been appointed with a PCSO for the first time.
Officer Joe Ford took on the role last month and will act as point of contact for the hospital staff and patients over everyday police matters.
Joe said: “My aim is to be providing a policing service to the thousands of people who work and visit the hospital every year.
“By giving advice to staff, listening to the concerns of patients and providing a high visibility presence at the hospital, I will be able to help reduce crime and improve confidence in the many vulnerable people who visit every year.
“A number of people in the hospital do not have any access to police surgeries and meetings that are available in their local neighbourhood, so this gives them a chance to have their say.
“All staff at Medway Maritime Hospital now have access to my contact details, so that I can respond to any issues quickly and effectively.”
Head of Facilities Gareth Hughes said: “Having a PCSO based on site will ensure that all incidents are dealt with immediately; giving support to all involved and securing a positive approach to crime reduction.”
Medway Maritime Hospital employs more than 3,000 members of staff and welcomes around 400,000 visitors every year.
