HOLCOMBE ladies will look to put the disappointment of losing in the league play-offs behind them by winning their first ever Kent Cup this weekend.
In a repeat of last year’s final, Holcombe will take on Maidstone at Canterbury’s Polo Farm.
On that occasion Maidstone came out on top, winning 3-2, but Holcombe coach Mike Haines is confident of creating an upset against their national league opponents.
He said: “It’s going to be a good test for us, they are a good side but then so are we. After the play-offs we came away a bit dejected but when I think what we achieved this season it’s fantastic.
“We would like to think we are a better side than last year and it would be very nice to pick up the cup, which would give us a boost for next season.”
Holcombe romped to their fourth successive league title with ease but due to league restructuring they were not automatically promoted.
Instead only the top two from a six-team play-off went up, with Haines’ side finishing third. Promotion would have put them in the same division as Maidstone for next season.
Apart from Lara Hoadley, who is unavailable, Holcombe go into Sunday’s final with a fully-fit squad.
Haines’ opposite number will be a familiar face to the Rochester club, as Maidstone coach Kevin Johnson is a former Holcombe player.
