Four cyclists complete mammoth American adventure

Four peddle-powered police officers have completed an arduous eight-day cycling challenge across Central America.

PCs Colin Grant, Dave Saunders and Anne Jeffrey were joined on the 600-mile trip by British Transport Police Inspector Ian Pennington.

The group rode from Panama to Lake Nicaragua and were raising cash for Macmillan Cancer Care in memory of PC Jan Pattenden who died from the disease in 2009.

PC Dave Saunders said:  “It was a hard journey over constantly changing landscape, including steep climbs and a 14-mile off-road downhill section.

“Cycling around the volcanic regions of Costa Rica was amazing.

“Macmillan is such a good cause and we were inspired to carry on by messages from colleagues and friends that we took with us.”

PC Colin Grant added:  “It was a really tough journey, but the knowledge that we were doing it all in memory of Jan brought us through and we were ecstatic once we finally crossed the finish line.

“We are hopeful of raising over £15,000 for charity and we’re already well on the way to achieving that.

“If anyone still wants to donate money, then it is very welcome and can be done online at www.justgiving.com/Colin-Grant-onyerbike

“I would like to thank all those who have already donated and shown great generosity.”
