FORMER Gillingham defender Ian Cox has ended his two months in the wilderness by joining Maidstone United.
The 37-year-old was released by Gills in March after nearly five years at the club.
He took a coaching course at Cobdown, Aylesford, last week which was led by Stones boss Alan Walker, who convinced him to play in the Ryman Premier next season.
Cox made 150 appearances for Gills but fell down the pecking order at the club once Mark Stimson took over. He spent two months on the sidelines after picking up a thigh strain in November and once Danny Cullip signed in February his opportunities became limited.
He played just once after January - Gills’ 4-0 defeat at Hartlepool.
Cox won 16 caps for Trinidad & Tobago and was part of the squad which won a place at the 2006 World Cup. He travelled to Germany but was an unused substitute in all three group matches.
